i have the following motherboard with "onboard audio"... http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWeb/Products/P ... 90&LanID=9

now i have Sound Blaster Audigy LS sound card lying around. should i go ahead and install the sound card or is the onboard audio "superior" to the add in sound card?

what would get me better performance in games, etc.?

That board has a Realtek AC97 audio chipset. Far as I'm concerned it's as good as the SB Audigy without the Audigy driver issues and the bloated background apps.

I'd use the onboard unless there's some specific feature in the Audigy you like.

I agree with FP. My system runs AC'97, and besides a few driver issues, say with San Andreas, I love it. Crisp, clear sound, hooked up to my surround sound system. Keep the other card when you get a comp with a half-assed audio chipset. Say, SiS?
