need a new hard drive - what do you recommend?

I'm looking to get a new hard drive both for my main rig and to put one in an external USB enclosure. I have had to take back this 120gig WD twice and it's starting to screw up again with bad sectors and the like. My confidence in WD has shot down and I'm just curious what you guys out there are using now-a-days.

I feel like it doesn't matter, cause every brand I've had (maxtor, IBM, WD) have failed me at one point or another :( But perhaps thats just cause I've dicked around with PC's long enough, heh. So what should I try next, Hitachi, Samsung, Seagate, Fijitsu?

Ditto! I've bought 5 of these drives, all with the 5 yr warranty, and they are all still working great after 1½ yrs of service so far. These are the standard ATA drives, not SATA.

Seagate or anyone who gives you at least a 3 year warranty.

I wouldn't give my worst enemy a Maxtor right now. If they have no faith that their drives will run for more than a year, why should I?

Hey it so happens my workstation and server both have Maxtors in them, and no problems, but I still wouldn't recommend then when you can get a drive with a 3 or 5 year warranty for a few dollars more.

A 1 year warranty is pathetic.

As for TigerDirect I had some bad problems with them in the past. They have a justly deserved bad reputation. Supposedly that's changed the last year. You might want to check ResellerRatings.com.

I personally won't deal with them because of what I've been through with them in the past.

I use NewEgg mostly.

i've never ordered from TD, but people from work have and they never had a problem. i've just heard of the mail-in rebate horror stories from them so i avoid rebate deals from them. new management is a good thing, most likely.

ive ordered lots of stuff from tiger direct but i do avoid the rebate stuff cuz its a bother. no problems xcept once a got a bad mobo but that happens every once in a while anywhere ant they shipped me anew one for free and took the dead one back and paid the shipping.
