Ok, time for the idiot to ask a question. My brother is looking to clean out his laptop, and he has like 20 gigs of information stored on it. he doesnt have a dvd burner, but i do. so how do i transfer the files from his computer on to my computer. i think you can hook the two together with a doulbe ended usb cable, but im really not sure. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Easiest would be network cable, but they do make a USB cable that could do it.

1) Network the computers together with a cross over cable
2) Pull the drive and connect it to your desktop as a spare using a mini IDE to IDE interface (around $10)
3) Pull the drive and conenct it to your desktop using an external USB HD enclosure
4) USB to USB bridge cable like this: http://www.usbgear.com/link/usb_link_cable.html

FYI,
i got all the files transferred using a crossover cable that i stole. wasnt too bad, other then it took a while to set up. the lappy will only run in safe mode, and even then did not want to co-operate.

Thanks guys. :cool :
