1Gb. Unless you're playing BF2 or you're a power Photoshop user there's not much need for more. HOWEVER the next generation of games will likely make use of more RAM (HL2's Loast Coast will probably run better with 2Gb). So if I was building a new rig I'd get 2Gb to be ready.
Realistically no reason to get more than 2Gb though.

1.5 atm - if I had some extra $$ i'd probably get a matched pair of 1 gb sticks so I could OC a little, but there isn't a whole lot of point event trying with 3 sticks...

Just wondering... I have 1Gig with a 3200+ now. I plan on upgrading this fall/winter and was thinking of going 2 Gig now while I have a little Spending $.
I have 2x512 Corsair Value ram and thinking of buying 2x1Gig Corsair Value ram and selling the other.

Yes you want 2x1Gb sticks. You don't want 4 sticks. 2 sticks is more stable.

2 GB pc 3200 in my main video processing system i have aptly named "overkill."
it is 2 sticks of 1GB, however, the particular board it is in will only run 2 x 1GB at PC2700 speed.
kind of a messed up tradeoff, but when i get a new board, those will be the first things i am pulling out

2GB of Corsair XMS2. My ram costs more than my car and there's something wrong about that...

lol
a side note: you need to matching sticks of memory, right?? and they go in
to the two blue slots. can you but anything in the third slot but still have ddr memory.
did that make sence??

Well ... I decided against a 64 upgrade and purchased 2 Gigs of Ram and a 74G 10,000SATA HDD.
I figure with my x800, 3200+, and $400 the memory and HDD would better perform then a 3000+64 upgrade.
Gets here monday.

Voodoo: If you use 3 sticks you disable Dual Channel mode. Not worth doing that - you lose performance.
Duckie: You'll be fine. My game rig is an Athlon32 3200+, 1Gb, x800 Pro and I can play anything silky smooth. Day of Defeat Source runs smooth at 1280x1024 with no FSAA.
