Can anyone help me ?

I have tried to upgrade my mates Emachines 430 by adding another 40 gig hard drive.
But It will just not recognise it ?
I have tried all jumper settings,Cable select,Primary and slave but no joy.
XP recognises it as new hardware but it just does not show up as an additional drive !!

WELCOME TO PCA!

You're saying that "XP Recognizes" so I assume you saw a message pop up that "New Hardware was installed".

Have you partitioned the drive yet? If it's not partitioned, it won't appear in My Computer because without a partition it won't have a letter assigned to it yet.

Right click My Computer, select "Manage", then select "Disk Management" in the tree on the left under "Storage". The unpartitioned drive should appear in the list on the lower right. Right click on the drive and create a partition.
