So many cases, so many headaches

Post by RMBGod »

So I have decided to build a new computer, and while I know how to put one together figuring out the parts is a little tougher. First part is obviously the case. I have been using Antec cases so fay, but I'm open to better suggestions. As for price, I'd like to keep it as far under $200 as possible, maybe even as far under $150 as possible. Any advice you can give me when looking at cases is also appreciated.

With a power supply? If so it's hard to beat an Antec.

Are you looking for lightweight? Go aluminum if you are.

If you want to spend $100-$200 on just a case alone, look at Lian Li cases. Beautiful cases that are all aluminum. No PS included in most models.

Otherwise check out Antec or Cheiftec (same Antec cases or used to be) or Enermax or even (god forbid) Thermaltake.

Check out Directron - http://www.directron.com and Tiger Direct for cases - http://www.tigerdirect.com. Chieftec is the same as Antec and both are very good. You could also direct your $$ to buying the best PS you can get and go cheap on the case. I've had every kind of case, from total crap to very nice. The nice ones are markedly better, but in the end its just a tin box you put your components in. If you are like a lot of people, you may end up leaving one side off most of time anyway.....

Oops - looks like Tiger no longer sells chieftec...

If you like black - this is nice deal on an Antec at Directron - http://www.directron.com/tx1050b.html

Although it pretty much uses up your budget I use and love the Enermax CS718B this case has an unusual interior design and the "Wind Tunnel" works better than I thought it would. The case is extremely well made and full of nice features. Well worth the $$$ in my opinion.

Hmmm, looks like you can get a pretty solid case for the lower 100's. What if I wanted to drop under or around $100? Also what is considered solid for power supplies these days?

I'd suggest the Antec P180. Buillding a system with it now.

No PSU, but you can get them at good prices at newegg. One grreat case! ;) Has excellent cooling for everything.
