I've got a P4 2.4 Ghz cpu on a Gigabyte GA-8IRXP, which only has 4x AGP, and 400Mhz FSB. I was just recently given a Radeon x800 XT as a gift. I'm thinking of doing a small 49$ upgrade. Would this Asrock do me well enough for the money?

Wow! Nice price on that board, but I've never heard of AsRock so I can't supply you with any info. Sounds like you just want to be able to support your new vid card with 8x AGP correct? I'm in the same boat as you - my Asus board only goes to 4x agp.

Yes 8x AGP and a faster FSB. Not a fan of VIA chipsets, but 49 bucks is cheap.

One of the reviews had this to say..."The ASRock brand is the "off" brand of Asus". This true?

Yes I believe that is true, well at least I have been told so by a few people who have them. One guy I know says they are solid low budget boards that work ok but not a lot of flash and not a good O/C'er the other guy has tons of problems but I am 100% sure they are of the user caused variety.

4/5 stars on NewEgg from 137 people. That sort of volume always gives me confidence. ;)

Guys, I wouldn't worry about it. In real world use the difference between 4x and 8x AGP is negligable. The extra bandwidth only makes any real difference if you use system RAM for texture memory, which you DON'T want to do, and normally wouldn't happen if you have at least 128Mb on the video card.

I wouldn't sweat it.

As I took out the old mobo I noticed several caps that were swollen and leaking. New board seems more responsive.
