Has anyone ever heard of Skype or tried it out even?

It's supposed to be free Internet telephony. Any upsides/downsides I should know about?

bw, ~ new services just added:

Skype, whose software allows people to make free phone calls over the Internet, said users could now get up to three phone numbers which will allow them to be reached by phone from any ordinary handset, fixed or mobile.

I use it for gaming with my buddies, it's amazingly clear

How does things work? As in w/ the phone numbers and the interaction between land line and Skype number?

it's pretty basic actually, it's just like an IM program except you can talk over a mic. just download it and try it, you'll see
