Just got my new parts in and now i got more problems

got a new msi k8n neo4 platinum and for some reason it will not detect my hardrive or either of my cd's. Ive tried 3 different cables and still nothing. What are the odds that both ide ports would not work? Grrr.. man this pisses me off. Been waiting all week to hook this stuff up and now a brick wall.

did you make sure the ide ports are enabled in bios? i have the msi neo 2 and they were disabled by default. they were labeled onboard PATA .

That's one thing that really really sux. A new setup that no worky. :;

What are the odds that both ide ports would not work?

Had an ecs one do just that. Haven't tried an ecs mobo since.

You try another psu? I'd guess you have the bios set right. I'd also try ram in another slot, or different ram that you know works. Otherwise, may be a bad mobo.

yeah both ports are enable, thats the first thing i checked And ive tried swapping all the ram around, No help there. I guess theres really no other way to test the ide ports huh? Iv combed thru the bios and everything is set to work. sigh..... here comes the rma i guess. another week of waiting

So you're saying that BIOS doesn't detect the hard drives? You're certain the IDE controller is enabled (this is usually a seperate setting from enabling the 4 IDE devices)?

yep FP im saying the bios will not detect them. I went thru and enabled everything that has ide in the title and still nothing. When you go in and auto detect the drives it comes up with none on all of them. Whatcha think?

ONE THING... adjust a jumper on the back of the drive to make it master... you never know!

also check the cables! plus reset the BIOs and try again. ( remove the battery )

HAHA finally success!!!!! Tried taking out the cmos battery and viola! detection. Now i gotta figure out why i get a blue screen everytime i try to install windows. It gets to the xp setup screen and BSOD. Another thing is it will not see all my ram. I have 2 sticks of corsair xms pc3000 256m and i just bought a 512 stick of the corsair value select. I know its the cheap stuff but i had too cut corners somwhere. it will only see 768m instead of 1 gig when i put all 3 sticks in. Now go ahead and tell me i'll have to use matched sticks of the same density. I know you want to

Well you should used match sticks if it's a dual channel mobo, otherwise you're losing performance.

Run MEMTEST all night to see if your memory passes.

Modern mobos are VERY fussy about memory. I bought some premium Corsair memory for my Asus A7N8X-E that didn't work properly and I was pretty irate until I found out that Corsair has a web page where they list the exact BIOS memory timing settings to use with their memory on certain motherboards that they've tested. Once I used their settings it worked like a charm.
