dell is crazy

i sent them a request for a firmware drive for a cdrw for a Dimension 4300s im working on .with a model hl dt st cdrw-gce 8160b unit in it . and im getting a code 39 error message
they email me back saying i have see below .

If Dell's e-mail software has interpreted your message
correctly, you have requested help with finding and installing an
encoder or driver for your DVD drive. This response document offers
information for solving the following problems.

1. Updating DVD Drivers and Software
2. DVD Movies Won't Play After OS Upgrade
3. DVD Drivers -- Why Can't I Find Them

dell forums are usually pretty good.....don't have to speak to folks in far off places :)

You might be able to download it directly from their drivers page. Also, as suggested above, their forums are full of useful info.

Tech support is mostly handled through India now so I avoid them whenever possible. I tell all my clients to purchase as a business - you get slightly better tech support.

called dell that was ok she sent me thinking after we both went nuts for a while !
system restore in windows xp to last month fixed it :)

i agree but what ever it was it fixed it ---- dell didnt list the cd as one of theres but per the orginal owner it was never was changed ?
said i was first in the box and i beleave him from the dust .

"dude, you are getting a Dell" :D seriously though, those drives are LG rebadges I believe, they were not uncommon for Dell couple years ago. I believe now, they have went over to Samsung
