i think i may have a board that is on its last leg. it is an epox 8kta3L+. about a month ago the system froze up. i tried to reset and it would not come back on. i would push the power button and the power led would light and fans spin for about 1 second. i pushed again and nothing. unplugged and plugged back in and it would light up for 1 second. i cleared CMOS thru the jumper and also tried pulling the cmos battery, still no go. also pulled the PSU mobo connector and put back in.
i changed the PSU and it posted, booted up fine. problem solved, so i thought. a few days ago, it froze up again and would not start. i did the things i mentioned above except changing the PSU. first i changed the CPU. also unplugged the case fans and CDROM. in doing this, i also moved the CPU clock jumper from 133 to 100 per CPU specs. it booted up fine. i eventually shut the system down, and later when i went to boot it back up, it would not start. just led's and fans, no post, no display.
the only way i have found to get it to start back up is to unplug it and pull the CPU clock jumper completely off, plug back in and start it , obviously it wont post. then i turn off, unplug and put the jumper back on there and i can start up and post to where it reads "verifying DMI pool data" and it freezes there. i hit reset, it boots to XP boot screen and freezes. reset and it will come all the way back up from there.
i got this board new about 4 years ago. i dont see any leaking capacitors, however some kind of have a bulge on top more than others.
does this sound like a board going bad or an issue with a PSU and/or electrical source?
