look in agp settingand its at 0 when i slide to 8x it goes back after closing why wont it stay the guy at the pc store says if the monitors working find then its defaulting to 8x is that correct???

do you have the Via chipset drivers installed? Not having them means AGP is disabled.

Untrue. If AGP is not enabled, the video card will likely still work. It'll just be limited to operating with standard PCI features (AGP is a superset of PCI.)
Try the Via chipset drivers, then try the latest Catalyst drivers, and see what happens.

do you know which ones and where to get them how do i check which drivers i have right now

my agp is at 66 my volt is 1.5 possible of 1.8 but not sure whats that s all about my MB is listed in signature and cant find anything about agp in book on how to change in bios or anywhere else only place i have that option to see where its set at is smartgarp on display properties
i downloaded garp driver from ati didnt seem to do anything how do i tell which drivers i have
on the dxdiag it shows main driver ati2dvag.dll ver. 6.14.0010.6430 date 2-24-04 is that it catalyst driver is 4.12 not even close what am i suppsd to have???

I had the same problem with my Intel board and my ATI 9600 Pro. It was not set at 4x it's max. Could not figure it out until I realized that when I installed fresh, XP installed default CHIPSET drivers. Once I downloaded and installed the ones from the mobo CD, now I'm able to run at 4x.
