2nd HDD going to sleep?

My main rig has two SCSI HDDs and lately the 2nd one is going to sleep, EVEN when playing a game where the game is located on that drive. Sometimes when I restart the PC, the 2nd HDD isn't always spinning up thus requiring yet another attempt to get it going. I've checked my power settings in windows, nothing's changed.
It is "sleeping" in that I can get it going again by clicking "my comp" and going into a file inside that D drive, It'll be inaccessable until I then hear that HDD spin up. It's especially annoying when trying to play a game located on that drive and the game locks up when the drive goes to sleep.
Nothing was changed or added by me that'd cause this. Any ideas or might the HDD be dying?

On one of my SCSI drives, I had the same problem a few years ago, and the only solution was to RMA the drive back as I could never get it to remain on.

OK, "Santa" was good enough to me to decide that it's upgrade time SO the new "stuff" is on the way.
Microstar K8T Neo2-F VIA K8T800 Pro/VT8237 Chipset Socekt 939 AMD K8 Athlon 64 FX DDR400 PC3200 1AGP8x 5PCI Audio LAN ATX with cpu - AMD ATHLON 64 3500+ with cpu heatsink & fan Combo Kit. Plus 1ghz dual channel PC3200 400mhz DDR Samsung memory, 500W PS and a new HDD too (keeping everything else).
My SCSI HDDs will still be there because I can still use the space and don't want to dump all those files to re-do the whole shooting match. I'm getting the HDD that Doc recommended from this thread

Overall, for non-server use, Western Digital's Raptor WD740GD is the fastest single hard disk one can buy regardless of spindle speed, interface, or price. The fact that it is so quiet, runs much cooler, and remains significantly less expensive than its SCSI counterparts is simply icing on the cake. Make no mistake about it- the Raptor WD740GD is the drive for power users, period
It's now on sale at NewEgg with a $25 rebate until 1/18.
So, that'll be my new C drive. Just need to decide if I stay with Win2K or finally go with XP on this one?
So Executioner, can you explain exactly what you meant by "RMA the drive back"? That HDD is my oldest SCSI HDD so perhaps it's dying?

I still had 3 months left on a 5 year warranty.

I don't know but I might be reaching here, is the drive getting hot and shutting it self down to cool off?

That's what I'm thinking. I blew out the dust a couple days ago and it's been fine since then. The HDDs have a fan blowing on them as they're suppose to but I'd neglected the dust problem for a while. Keeping my fingers crossed.
