Which do you think will be the most futureproof, Socket 939 or 754?
The AMD roadmap isn't much use.

I don't want to buy a new combo and find it's out of date in a year... ok maybe that's stretching it

In either case, I think 754 came out first, but 939 seems to have a higher top speed....

Thoughts?

That Socket 939 is the future of AMD for the next couple of years.. I'd go that route..

It is definetly 939 .... though it is more than likely that you'll have to buy a new mobo/cpu/ram combo again when you upgrade in 2-3 years.

Oh that won't surprise me at all, I just want to make sure I can get a faster chip in the future (maybe a 4500

) and it'll still be a socket 939 compatible with whatever MB I buy.

939. amd already said the 3700+ was the highest the 754 will have.

For motherboards, I figure a NF3 chipset would be better than a Via chipset?

the best board out right now seems to be the dfi nf3 lanaprty but I dont think it is a 939. I havent really kept up on the 939 line cause I dont have one.

Personally, if I had the $ I would just get the shuttle 939 box and call it a day.

does anyone know how long before mATX 939 boards are gonna be plentiful?

i only know of 1 or 2 boards out at the moment, but not in good price/supply.
