I just ordered some parts for my new system that I am buying for myself for Christmas! I welcome any comments or suggestions that anyone might have - but mainly I'm just bragging because I'm happy

New Daddies don't get a lot of stuff for themselves, so I had to really spend as little as possible, or I would have bought the latest and greatest.

EPOX NFORCE2 EP-8RDA6+PRO (awesome mb, IMHO - I love Epox)
AMD Athlon XP 2700+ 333 FSB
Patriot Signature Series 2x512 MB Dual Channel PC3200 RAM
160 GB WD SATA 7200 RPM hard drive

I already have the optical drives and larger IDE Storage Drives.

So, what do you guys think? Is it a good upgrade from my older system?

Specs for the now old main rig:
Epox 8k5A2+
Radeon 7500
Athlon XP 2100+
2X512MB Kingston PC2100
2X WD 40 GB Raid 0
2x WD SE 120GB
1x External USB 2.0 WD 80GB SE
Firewire PCI Card (for DV cam)
Pioneer DVR-A06U 4x Multi-format DVD burner
Lite-on 52x24x52 CD burner

You going to clone your old XP install or start clean? If you clone the old one, you must do a repair installation with the XP CD (2nd menu after the EULA, select Repair from the menu). You may need to press F6 when prompted when the installer starts and have your hard drive contoller driver ready on a floppy if XP doesn't see your drives.

Be aware you'll have to re-install all your service packs (unless you use an XP CD that's slipstreamed to SP2) and all the latest patches (which will only be a few if you install SP2 first).

Hey, thanks for that information and for the recommendation. I've done a repair install on the drive arleady, so I am ready for a re-install. XP is bogged down pretty well at this point, I install too much crap all the time.

I am going to do a fresh install of XP on the new SATA drive...it's about that time!

Are you going to upgrade your Video. If So i suggest this fine fellow here, has some good prices..

hehe...very slick

I'm kind of kicking myself for not ordering an Athlon 64, because I could have ordered a different Epox board with an Athlon 64 3000+ for only $69 more, but by the time I had noticed that, my order had already gone through - darn Newegg and their quick processing times!

Anyone think that I will regret my purchase in light of this realization?
