Nero wont burn any faster than 1x speed!!!

It seems I'm plagued when it comes to burning dvd's Nero now is only letting me burn at 1x speed. Its not a media problem either I've tried several different ones, all 4x or 8x capable. It just started doing this recently. It always let me burn at full speed before. Any ideas what could be going on?

I had this problem with cd's once and ended up doing an uninstall and reinstall of nero. Dont know why it happened or what caused it.

I would look in Device Manager and make sure the IDE channel the burner is on is running in DMA mode and not PIO mode.

Its not just nero now. Clone dvd is doing the same thing.


The drive is an external usb 2.0 drive (a liteon). Its never done this before today. I've tried everything I can think of so far with no luck

check the event manager and see if there are any errors showing up...maybe something is up with the I/O on the USB bus or something. also, check the device manager and see if the drivers are installed properly for the USB root hub and all of that (if it's using the onboard USB ports)...or is this an add-on card?

No errors at all in the event manager. It allows me to burn flawlessly, just at an unbearable 1x. Even before burning, it tells me the max speed is 1x. I've double and triple checked all the drivers. Nothing out of the ordinary. I'm using the USB built into the machine connected directly to the drive as I always have. I've come to the conclusion that burning dvd's is much more of a pain than its worth

just a idea but maybe its the disks your burning to !

if you can...grab a different dvd burner from a friend and try it. that way you can rule out the actual drive (which i am suspecting is the problem now). if it's a generic enclosure that you put the drive into...install the drive internally and see if the problem persists...then you'll know it's the USB ports or something.

I tried the drive on another machine. Same issue. So I've concluded its either the drive or the usb enclosure. I will try the drive inside a different machine tomorrow. I'd hate to have either the drive or enclosure be bad. Seeing as they are each about 2 weeks old

Its the drive Any reason why a perfectly good less than a month old drive should up and decide to do this??? Should I try a firmware update? This is the third dvd burner I've bought in the last 2 months. I'm getting tired of this.

Just did a firmware update and it works!!!!!!!!


Now lets just hope it lasts!!!
