Very possible it's a shorted power switch. Unplug the power switch from the mobo header and just use a screw driver to short the two pins to turn it on. If it doesn't turn off by itself, that's the problem. Power switch is shorted on all the time (it's just a momentary push button) and it's just the same as if you were holding down the button all the time. All mobos will shut off after 5 seconds if you hold the power switch down., and if you kept holding the button down it would probably turn on again after a few seconds on some mobos.

Quick workaround: use the reset switch for the power switch until you replace the power switch.

Next suspect is a bad card. Pull all the cards except the video card and see if it still does it. If it does, pull the vid card too and see if it still does it.

Next would be the PSU. Swap it for a spare if you have one.

It could also be (although less likely) bad ram, overheating, BAD BIOS settings (use the safe defaults in the BIOS menu for now).

Hoep this helps...

This is Banshee(voodoo's uncle) and the one with the mother board problem. We eliminated everything from the board, layed the mobo on the static mat with only the power plugged in and it is still trying to recycle itself, no beeps on bootup, its not getting that far. Its like the power is resetting itself every 2 secs. As if the reset switch was on all the time.

I am running a Asus 7xn8x deluxe, athlon xp2400+, 512 meg of pc2100 ddr ram, rev 1.04 on mobo. hope this helps.
guess i need a new one...

my guess would be power supply then if you tried the screwdriver trick. Do you have a spare to try?

I agree with Cat - try swapping out the PSU with a known good one. Could be a bad mobo though.
