What is more important when selecting a LCD monitor , response time or contrast ratio ?

I see the

Dell E193FP has 16 ms response time and a 500:1 contrast ratio

and the

Dell UltraSharp 1901FP has 25 ms response time and a 600:1 contrast ratio

The E193FP is a lot cheaper . I thought the lower response time was better ??

TIA

Lower Response Time..

Would be better for gaming. 500:1 is still a damned good contrast ratio if you ask me. I would take the lower response time over the higher contrast ratio..

I thought so too , but wonder why the E193FP is soo much cheaper than the 1901FP ?

Well, it could be because the 1901FP features this :

Panel pivot, 4 USB 2.0 ports, Height adjustable stand, Integrated rubber sleeve

And the other does not?

Not sure.. :)

If you're serious about your gaming you want a fast response time, although even slow response modern LCDs do a nice job. They don't ghost as bad as older monitors.

My LAN party rig has a 16ms LCD and it works fine for FPS games, although I prefer my fast 25ms units at home.

The 1901FP is a nice monitor BTW.

I game on a 16ms 500:1 contrast ratio LCD (viewsonic VP171b) and I have no issues with it. No ghosting and I play Quake 3 and other fast moving games semi-serious. I love this LCD.

Wouldn't 16ms be faster than 25ms?

Yes it is, which is why I was about to ask if he accidentally wrote that wrong...

Yes, my bad, reverse my numbers. 16 is faster than 25. Too many beers.... :)

I also have the Viewsonic VP171b LCD monitor and it's a great 17" LCD. No ghosting with Quake 3 or when playing DVDs.
