My 21" CRT Died.. :(

Post by eGoCeNTRoNiX »

Oh it's a sad day. I'm having to resort back to the only extra monitor I have in the house. A 13" Addonics........... *cry* It was working fine, then all of a sudden the screen went black, all the lights went off and it started making a high pitched squeal. So I turned it off and unplugged it. Any chance this is something that I can fis myself? I sure hope so. otherwise I'm going to have to start saving my pennies to buy a 30-32" HDTV w/DVI so I can have the big screen back. Saddest part is that this was also used as my main TV for home entertainment. *sigh* Any help you guys can offer would be appreciated. I think I remember hearing someplace that squealing is usually the sign of a leaky/bad cap? Don't know..

Thanks Again!!

Yah, I wish I had the extra cash to go out and pick up on of those, it would certainly tide me over (and would make a good monitor for my gaming rig) but right now cashflow is low. Thanks for the tip though.. :)

And No DoPeY... I don't look at pr0n on this computer.. :P

That big a monitor I would take to a TV shop to see if it's worth fixing. If it costs $100 it's worth it. You can't replace it for that.

Take it to a Mom & Pop TV repair shop. Someplace small. Take it mid-week early in the morning so it's not busy. Hopefully they'll look at it and give you a quote without charging you just to look at it.

Any TV shop can repair a computer CRT.

9 times out of 10 it's just a bad high voltage transistor. If you didn't smell smoke it's probably an easy fix.

This is what I was hoping.. I didn't smell any smoke or see any.. The lights just all went out (on the monitor) and it started to squeal. I'll see what one of the shops around here says. Thanks!!

Welecome to the club... I had my 21" develop a discolered spot near the middle and the convergence was all messed up. So i pitched it and got 2 more 21" monitor for 275.

They are ViewSonic Professional Series P225. Its nice to finaly have a matched pair of monitors. They also have powered USB hubs built into the base. If your near indiana or would like to try to have one shipped i can get you one for 150.

Not a bad price at all Pugsley, but I'm afraid the shipping to Louisiana would be quite costly.. I have freight availability, but still a little too costly even for such a great deal. :)

It's an old Digital (that's what it says) monitor. It's 10 years old, so I doubt there's any warranty on it. ;)
