LCD Flickers?

Hey Guys,

Working on a clients computer and after the LCD has been on for a while it starts to flicker..... I don't know what the deal is with it.. It does it on my computer as well as theirs. Now, here's a question.. They're using a RadioShack PSU that is 12V @ 1500ma however, the back of the monitor says it should be 12V @ 3.3A Could this be the problem? I somehow have a feeling it is, but can't be sure as I know nothing about them. This is the first LCD I've ever had in my possesion.. lol.. Help appreciated

I'd say there's a damn good chance that's it. 1500ma is 1.5amp. If the power requirement is 3.3 amp then the display is not getting enough power.

Not to mention that a generic Radio Crap PSU might also not be putting out stable enough voltage for the display's liking.

I assume they've lost/misplaced the original PSU?

Your guess is as good as mine.. I'll let him know what he needs to get and we'll see if that fixes it.

I'm also betting that the RS unit is just a little transformer, with no form of filtering or anything like that... besides the fact that the RS unit puts out no even half of the power the monitor requires....

i thought lcds were supposed to take LESS power than a crt? MY 17" crt takes only 1.1amp power.

Elementary my dear Watson, it's Ohm's law: voltage times amperage equals wattage.

So....

YOUR MONITOR: 1.1 amps x 110 volts = 120 watts

His LCD: 3.3 amps x 12 volts = 39 watts

So his LCD uses 1/4 the power your monitor does.

Thank you! Since I haven't been a sound engineer in 7 years, my Ohms law was getting rusty. Nice to know those brain cells still work.
