I've been noticing the heat that comes off chipsets is pretty damn hot. I'm surprised they don't have something better than just the standard passive small heat sink.

What you you guys use?

In one of my systems I am using a SOYO Dragon , the one with the KT600 chipset . It came with a hs/fan on it .

for an aftermarket, I would sugest anythign Zalmon. Good stuff, passive but big and good

Also, if I'm not overclocking, its it worth getting one anyway? I have no idea how hot is hot for a chipset, but this sucker gets very hot like the old Voodoo3 video cards with the large passive heat sink. After running the Voodoo3 for 10 minutes or so, you can not even touch the heat sink because it was just to damn hot.

The same holds true with this chipset. After running the board for 10 minutes or so, you are hard pressed to leave your finger on the heat sink.

They all look cool too, if you have a side window.

If all is stable, then you really don't need one. But, it could make the lifespan longer. The southbridge should have something though. Most have nothing there. The northbridge most for sure needs cooling. imo

I just attached a 40mm fan on the the passive HS on the chipset of my Epox 8RDA+

I use them zalman ones. they are great. but like greg said, they are big. but they work great!
