I'm looking in to buying a new Laptop. I would like to know what you guys reccomend.
I have a DELL Inspiron 3800 and was pretty happy for the most part. I dont like that the Bios hasnt to many user adjustable features.
Are most Laptops like this, or is there some that are better. Maybe some that also could be upgraded (video card and CPU)
Any tips and hints, or which ones should I stay away from? (like e-machines)

:)

Forget about user adjustable BIOS on ANY OEM computer.

I like Dell laptops. Worth paying the extra money for 3 years on site servicing. It breaks they come to your house and fix it.

I'm very happy with my Inspiron 1100.

I was looking at the Inspiron 1150 with a 2.8P4 chip. right now on sale for 1299 Canadian.
I was happy with my Inspiron 3800. Just time to upgrade, and I might have somebody that is intrested in buying the old one.

Well I'v done it, and ordered the Inspiron 1150. With Shipping and Taxes 1498 Canadian.
I think this is pretty good.
Specs: P4 2.8, 60Gig HDD, 512MB DDR Ram Video not quiet sure, LAN, Modem, 14.1 Screen
could have upgraded to 15.1 screen for 100 bucks, but wanted to keep it inexpensive, and I know from past experience that if I start upgrading then I will not stop at one thing but go all the way.
:)
didnt buy the extended warranty either, because i live in an remote erea where they wouldnt do house calls.

US Or Canada ?

Not sure where you are located but this weekend (Labor day) weekend
Office Depot has AMD Athlon based HP Laptop for $599 (as posted on http://www.dealsofamerica.com)
You can only buy it in-store, it is NOT available online.
Configuration is good, but only if you have office depot around you.

I went for the toshiba p25-s509.

I wanted alot out of a laptop...

17" widescreeen
dvd+/- burner
60gb+ hd
p4 2.8
etc...

When it came down to it, only like 2 companies actually made one that had everything I needed. So the toshiba was my choice. I truly couldnt be happier with it!
