you see somethings wrong with xp on my brothers laptop.. theres a main account for someone else.. so he made himself another "user" account and gave it adminstrator rights.. but when he tries to change the resolution.. it gives him "cannot change resolution, you need adminstrator right" or some blah blah
id like to fix it somehow without formatting..
anyone? thanks
not sure what the problem is..

You shouldn't even have formatting on your mind right now...,
Basically sign in as the true Admin.. if you do not know the password than go through safe mode and acess it and change the password and run it from true admin.

If you have access to the Admin account you SHOULD be able to change resolutions. You should also be able to change anyone's password from there.
If you can't change resolutions from the Admin account than something screwy is going on. There's a couple of viruses and even a spyware app that can cause that problem.
You should also do a search in Google for the specifc error message you get. I've seen this be caused by a screwed up registry entry.
Another option is, if you know when this problem started to occur, you can use System Restore to roll the system back to a date before it happened.
