Funny that is happening to me a lot lately too. Only it happens first thing in the morning when I have not used the computer since day before. Once I unplug the modem and router then plug them back in I am good to go again. Road Runner here but an RCA modem like Greg.
WAS having that problem..

I have a Linksys BEFSR11 I think you have the 41 dad? I upgraded to that "Oh we fixed that huge security flaw" firmware and had nothing but problems.. Do I downgraded to 1.4.2 the reportedly most stable version and I haven't been disconnected for 4 days. Where as before I was getting disconnected on the hour.. Something with the DHCP..
When it does that, log into your router and release the ip then renew it and all should be well..
But if you're not using a router Greg, I'm not sure what it is...

I just come comquak and they are comming out tomarow. they think it might have to do with over congestion of lines, so hopefully that means they run an additional line to ME!
but yea, its retarded. It might be dead in the AM, apparently it was today according o my MOM. I mean how is Kazaa supposed to do its thing and how am I supposed to get F@H units.
Actually I do use a router, a dlink something but I havent changed anything on it in ages.

Yeah I have the BEFSR41 and when I updated the firmware it went to hell on me. I got bounced out of online game in less than a minute. I called Linksys and they said no problem we'll send you an older firmware since they are not available on their website. Yeah right it never came. I did find a copy of the 1.4.2 firmware and flashed to it. Problem is better now but still happens every other day or so. Sometimes just unplugging the modem does it sometimes I need to do both modem and router, so to save time I have gotten into habit of just doing both just in case.

3 likely possibilities:
- Bad Router. If it happens even with the modem connected directly to the computer then you can eliminate the router. If you think it's the router, try re-flashing the BIOS.
- Bad modem
- Weak signal
Have Comcast come out and check the signal at the box. If it's weak they may have to run a new home run cable out to the splitter outside. Ideally the cable modem should NOT share a cable with any other device. Every time you split a coax cable you HALVE the signal strength.

No problem here with Verizon DSL. I'm using their Westell modem with a SpeadStream router. I've had mine on for months without a reset, except for 3 months ago when the modem was only giving me a download of a 33.6 modem. Replaced the modem and it's right back where it was.
