well new to me, im posting from a nice ibm thinkpad t22 laptop.
specs are
128 mb ram
900mhz p3
8 mb s3 savage video
crystal audio
8x removeable dvd drive
built in nic & modem
ps2 in
svideo out
20 gb hdd
removeable floppy
14.1 screen native res 1024x768
1 usb port
2 pcmcia 1 or 2 or 1 pcmcia 3 slot
vga out
paralell and serial port

this is my first laplop and i probly got ripped on it for $599 they claimed it was a corperate grade one so its built better i guess. so what y'all think?

Sorry, but I think you paid too much. Not worth more than $500 and that's IF the battery was still good. I would have taken $100 off for a dead battery.

One could make the arguement that it's worth the extra $100 because it's a ThinkPad but I don't really think that much of them.

You could have bought a new Dell Inspiron 1150 for $800 and just waited until they have free shipping which is like every 2 weeks.

Corporate grade actually refers to the condition of it

the battery is fine it lasts 2.5 hours surfing. i had a dell once. it sucked. it also has a yr replacement warrenty

Love my Dell 1100. 4 hour battery life.

No one offers more than 1 year warranty standard. You can always buy an an extended warranty through Dell AND Dell offers on-site warranty repair not just mail-in.

i've never dealt with IBM lappies...

for work i say:

dell>hp>compaq>sony (of course now hp/compaq are the same...)

the new nc6000/8000 business lappies are very nice. the older compaq evos were the worst trash i've had the displeasure of supporting.

dells have been untouchable as far as reliability and onsite support/warranty.

hmmm so no one here who posted so far has owned one. i was hoping to maybe see what icould expect from it like if it lasts a long time typically. perhaps i made a bad buy. but my 1 yr unconditional replacement warranty will give me enough time to find out i guess.

I bought two IBM R40's for my company about 4 months ago. IBM's are nice.... and expensive. I guess what sets them apart is build quality. They have a titanium frame that makes them sturdier. I don't think they are any better or any worse than my Dell 5150 though. As far as reliability, they are reliable if you take care of it. Any laptop is fragile and succeptible to damage if you mistreat it.

i have a ? now. in the battery info it says design capacity 38.88 wh but in the status detail it says full charge capacity is 18.36wh. shouldnt it say 38.88 also?

I think that is depends on the actual capacity of the battery. And battery capacity is actually based on the number of cells within the battery and it's composition. But it can also mean that it was designed with 38.8 max power.

i ran the battery dead and recharged it. the capacity is now 25.18. maybe a couple of discharge/charge cycles will put it back to its capacity. i also did some research and found it can take some cool stuff in the ultrabay. like dvd writer, cd writer zip250 another battery which im really thinking about getting. it has an ir port too what can you do with that? my tv remote dont do anything with it lol

the IR port can be configured to connect with other IR devices (PDA's, other laptops, etc) to transfer data.
