win2k winxp network

Post by grumpy 1 »

I was wondering if anyone can help me with a few suggestions
I got a client with a win 2k pro server and he has been running win98 on the terminals for around 18 months.
Have been able to log in no worries with accounts setup on the win 2k server
Have changed the terminals to winxp home and 2 out of 3 are logging on with no problems
User name
eddie
password eddie in the user account in win2k and the user in winxp
user nane mitch password ncs logs in no worries

however user name amy password ncs i have to enter a user name and password every time to access shared files on the win2k server
I have deleted the Amy account on the server and terminal and started from scratch again still the same
Have taken great pains to ensure caps lock and spelling correct sti;; no go
its setup to log onto network drive on start up and everytime it cant connect the network drive i have to manually enter user name password

Any ideas

Cheers

Username Amy is almost certainly running the WinXP Home (not Pro) operating system on her computer.

Home is not network friendly. It will not automatically logon to a server and it can't be used with a domain server. It will also not give you an option to "remember" individual logons and passwords for shared resources like Win2K Pro and XP Pro does.

You have two choices. Continue using XP Home and Amy just has to learn to live with the inconvenience of logging on each time she first uses a shared resource.

Or upgrade the computer to WinXP Pro.
