It seems like I've exhausted everything that I know how to do. From beginning what I was planning on doing was upgrading my buddy's comp to XP so I scanned it for viruses on my machine and removed them, then I backed up his data to my harddrive. Now I am ready to format and install the new OS.... so I thought. I had to go in and change the boot sequence so I went to the bios and it's passworded. So I'm like whatever and I pull the jumper for about 20 seconds. Stick it back on and now it won't start up. So I'm like well maybe the CMOS got messed up or something stupid so I pull the CMOS battery to clear it and then press the power button with out the power hooked up to drain any remaining charges. I stick the battery back in and nothing. Here's a list of where I've gone so far....

-Swapped power supplies (Would of used a power supply tester except the Dell power supplies have that extra set of cords that runs to the mother board along with the normal set so the testers don't work on them.)
-Pulled and seated the CMOS battery multiple times along with the Jumper
-Pulled out all the components (Modem and sound card)
-Pulled RAM
-Pulled Hard Drive
-Re-seated the CPU
-Disconnected the Power button from the Mobo and tried jumping it with a screw driver

Basically where I'm at now is whether or not the main board is fried. I'm at the end of my rope, so if any one has another other ideas before the board is ruled as the deciding factor please say so. Any ideas at all.

have you tried putting the jumper on a different setting 1-2 instead of 1-3, etc or with the jumper off entirely?

I think your screwed. Dell doesn't have "normal' pinouts on their motherboard atx supply connectors.

what model dell is it?

if it's an old GX110 you're a lucky dude...i'm about to throw one in the dumpster...but the mobo is ok in it.

Yup.... I think this one might be fried.

Umm..... Dell power supply connectors are NOT standard ATX. You may have fried the mobo if you connected a standard ATX PSU to it...

Reseting the CMOS should not have disabled the system. Can't see where you went wrong.

Noooooo I'm aware of the lamo power supplies the dells use and I used a replacement one from where I work.

Yes I tried putting the jumper on the other settings as well.

Leave the jumper on the clear cmos jumper (2-3) and restart the system. You should get to a bios screen where you can adjust and save settings. shutdown, place the jumper on pins 1-2, and see if that restarts the computer normally.

Yeah...
The passwork is ussually the same pass to get into your computer as adminestrator.
I dont know usually i just use the jumpers next to the Cmos battery to restest the cmos.
I had that problem but it was cause I changed the frequency of the processor and ram and figured out i had no jumpers on the board to change to the right frequency.

If you need to inside the BIOS you can change the CRrom to you master.And change the jumpers on the back and boot your disk from CRrom or ect......
