Its a Diamond supraMax 56k. Hooked it up but my connection speed is about 7kb. thats right, 7 kb. Found an old zoom V.92 that I can connect with at 44kb. Thing is the zoom is tempermental.

Anyone have any clues about the USB?

Update-- It's the damn drivers causing my problems. I am now able to connect at 33.2 kbps. Did some research and digging around and found out this modem isn't made anymore. The drivers I am using are some hacked up hybrid i found somewhere deep in the bowels of the internet. I don't even think they are for a diamond modem. Time to get another modem. :)

You can't always go by what windows says your connection speed is, drivers actually determine what is displayed. Make sure you have the latest drivers and do a online speed test.

I was in a hurry when I posted the above.

I have the correct drivers. I am basing the speed on my ISP's own bandwith test. I cant use the test with the USB modem though. I know the speed is fairly accurate when I can't even ping my ISP with the USB modem. Unfortunately I don't know anyone with a comp that is new enough to test it out with.

I don't think its the phones because I get a good connection with the crapy zoom modem. I dont want to use the zoom because my dad thinks he might need it to check his email. :D

MegaVectra - went to the link and got 42.something. My ISPs test is 43.5. Windows shows I am connected at 44.5. That's not to much of a difference overall.

Maybe my ISP is using X2 lines.
