Linkysys Wireless and Cordless phone question

Post by RaT »

I'm currently running a wireless netowrk at home. I have the Linksys BEFW11S4 (2.4ghz) router setup at home with no issues.

Just recently my cordless phone went dead and I plan to get a new phone today. I noticed my old phone was of the 900mhz kind (whatever that means :) ). Most cordless phones i've seen have 2.4ghz written all over them nowadays.

will this have any conflict with my existing wireless network at home. i've noticed the 5.xx ghz but i really don't need a fancy phone with too many useless features.

yea, some times. I have 2 different 2.4ghz phones and my wireless network here and the panasonic has NO effect on my network at all but the vtek ruins the wireless network. you might want to look into a 5.8ghz phone if you are really worried about it.

oh yea, my sony phone did the same thing, ran havoc on my network.

Usually it's not a problem. I have 4 wireless phones in the house and there's no issues with my WiFi.

Newer phones are smart enough to avoid a channel that's in use. You can also always change the channel on the Wifi AP if you're having problems (a smart thing to do anyway in metropolitan area with a lot of nearby WiFi APs). Most APs are setup for ch 9 as default.
