Nope.. Won't work, unless you're extremely lucky. Most compaq boards are made specifically for the chip that comes with them. I've got one that has a 667 in it tried a 100mhz FSB chip in it and it wouldn't even post. If you can get the chip for testing purposes it would be worth a shot. But also be aware you'll need to RAM as well, and it's possible that the mobo won't accept 133mhz SDRam because I know that was a problem with the compaq I have as well, would not accept anything BUT PC100. hmm shucks, I dont think the RAM would be a problem for Crucial lists 133 for this model. And so far I never had problem with crucial, and picky motherboards like HP's or e-machines.
So do you think not even a P !!! 700 100 FSB will work?

for the same money - you might find you can find a faster mb and cpu trying to get it on pca forsale forum or others when you figure in the shipping costs ! ;)

Just buy Athlon tbred b 2400+ 2GHz ($60)

and a $36 motherboard and you'll have a computer twice as fast for probably less than a P3 CPU.

I'm not positive if that motherboard can support the 2400+ but it looks like it does. Maybe someone can give better examples, but P3s are just very expensive for how they perform.

I have a friend that had a 2400+ in a board with that same chipset. Should work.

He's going to need more than a new mobo, CPU and RAM. You can't put a stock ATX mobo in a Compaq Presario case.

This rig going to be used for serious gaming? If not, you can pick up a Dell 2400 without an OS installed for cheap:
