i open it up and i find the oem harddrive is mounted to the front of the case were we normally find a front case fan . and that there is room for one add on slot avail were a 2nd cd would be installed .
so i go and take the new drive out of the package and set it up to install in that slot .
then i find the mounting screw holes in the case dont line up . no biggie i just drill new ones . all is fine now get it mounted of course only with 2 screws seeing i cant get to the other side to to see were to drill those hole .
i undo the seagate drive it came with . to find the factory had taken a blue marker (looked like a sharpie and wrote on the drive right over the jumper settings info
go on line to seagate and find the jumper settings no problem .except for time seeing she is on dial up.and to make matters even better (AOHELL)
get it all set in and mounted . only to find my ribbon will only reach the cdr and new drive .
so i set up the new drive with jumper set to work as a slave . that didnt work so i deside to go cable select . that didnt work .ok i say i just do some part moving around - well i think i just move the cdr in the case down a slot and my new ribbon will work . WRONG found i have to strip the whole case apart to do this . (r&R power supply and then move the cdr and reinstall it all . )
desided not worth my time ,and she was not willing to buy a new case )
anyway here is what else i ran into .
the ribbon for the seagate -was a one drive only ribbin and really short !
not long enought replacement ribbin with new drive to reach between drives and then to mother board !
when i hooked new drive in with cdrwith the ribbin - the machine would not read old seagate hard drive .
just not worth my time or yours if anyone ever asks you for help and they have a E-Machine
so now i have me a new hard drive to build a 3 unit at the house
think im going to build a linix rig
