Just wondering what most of you folks do for security. I have DSL with a router and Norton AV 2002. I do not have a software firewall installed which brings me to the poll.

Is having both worth while? What are the benifits? What software firewall program do you run?

I am behind a Linux router (to share my DSL and keep the bad boys out) and I'm running Kerio Personal Firewall on my Win2k machine to stop spyware from calling home. I'm still using my Norton Antivirus 2001.

AVG isn't looking so good in a review in my current C'T (on of the best german PC mags) compared to other current anti virus apps.

I am a firm believer that we all should run a anti virus, router AND a software firewall. As Doc, I also use kerio. It's free and does very well. And yes there are things a firewall misses, kerio picks up.

I use to use avg but picked up nav for a $10 deal. It's much more bloated than avg, but seems most give it higher ratings.

Router and Norton's AV here. I used to have Norton's Personal Firewall as well but it raised hell with trading files over the network so I ditched it.

Try kerio Randy. It's very small and you easily configure it as you go. Doesn't slow anything down. ;)

Router and AV app here. I see no need for a firewall unless I suspect there's a trojan running on one of my systems, but I can also check the router's logs for that.

right now, i have my linksys befsr41 router running to a 5 port switch, which goes out to my 3 systems.

1 system isnt running anything
my other server is running AVG (but hasnt been updated in a few months)
and my main system is set up in the DMZ with just McAffee virus scan enterprise 7 (switched to it when i found out it was better and caught a virus that AVG didnt pick up)

I used to run keiro on my main system....but been to lazy to reinstall and set it all up after my last reformat. And my other systems I just havnt put much thought into installing it on them
Gone for good. But never say never

I have my two computers linked up to my DSL connection through a Linksys 4 port Cable/DSL router. I also have Norton Antivirus on both PCs along with ZoneAlarm.
