I have a virus and I couldnt do anything about it in windows. So I decided to restart in safe mode.
But when I hit F8 it didnt work. So i just went into the msconfig and set the boot ini option to restart the comp in safe mode. Now I cant rerun msconfig in safe mode to change it back to start normally.
How in the hell can I get this thing to boot normally again??

Please help. Pretty big emergency!
I need a way to get outta safe mode....
thanks

If your using 2k/XP/etc just open up boot.ini and delete the /SAFEBOOT switch - that should fix it for ya.

wish I could find it...
if I seach I come up with only the boot.ini.backup file...
where do I find boot.ini?
K I ran search again found boot.ini and this is what i had
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Pro" /fastdetect

and that is a normal boot.ini... windows is what is determining what happens to my system...
I need to be able to get back into msconfig, but I can't
every time I try to open any exe or msconfig it says the specified file can't be found try and use search to locate it... even if I find the file and use it...still the SAME thing...

*edit* I hate this laptop keyboard...fixed my spelling

any ideas??

:( Wish I could help but I've never been through that.

If you have important files and another system handy, then remove that drive and have it as slave on another system and get the files from it.

There is probably a simple way to correct your problem. I'd hold out till tomorrow, someone may know. Or search google. I tried some.

I agree, virus makers are total scum. :grr Why can't they do things that are contructive instead.

***Try a XP repair install. It should let you do that.

I wish I could hold out, but it seems the virus won't let me load any exe files
luckily I made a partition on the drive for me to move my crap to in this kinda situation
so I am moving things as we speak...
ah well...it was time for a refresh anway....
I just hate it not being on MY terms.... :mad

thanks blade

"but it seems the virus won't let me load any exe files"

I had a similar virus, I forget the name but it corrupted every .exe I had :( I remember reading that when you executed an infected exe it would start the vicious cycle over, which means not only did I have to reinstall windows, but I had to reinstall all my games and re-download all the misc files/extractors/etc I had just to be safe.

Luckily it wasn' that bad. The day someone comes out with a virus to destroy .mp3 or .avi, I'll be fubared :o

I don't think I would install Norton 2004 AV. That thing is nothing but bloatware at it's best. Say with 2002 or 2003.

I vote for NAV 2002 as well or the free AVG. Starting with NAV 2003 it's a major resource hog, and doesn't really do anything that 2002 doesn't.

well your posts were too late :P
already installed, and what's so much different about it then 2003??
it looks and acts the same as 2003...except there's always a damn popup when I move a file over from 1 drive to another...
I do have NAV 2003... maybe I'll slap that on
