I was given a pack of those cool little cd-rws that hold like 210 mbs of data yesterday, so i went to try to burn them using a Sony crx185e3 drive. I have tried using Nero 6 Ultra, and the built in Windows utility and for some reason I cant get the damn thing to burn at all, I burn CD-rs fine.
One thing I know, I have a device called a guitar port hooked through my pc to play my guitars through.
when I place a cd in to play with it starts chopin and hissing etc it will read and play games fine.
I did a system test to see whats up.
Looks like the CD-RW is in PIO mode instead of DMA, I cant change the setting, b/c i dont know know how.
Please help.

Check Yer Bios..

There should be a setting in the BIOS that will allow you to change that. It will be in the first config area where you would select your drives and what not if you were doing it manually, off to the right you should see a field to change it to "auto" I believe. Hope this helps.. eGo

Device Manager.. Go to your ATA/IDE controller in the device manager and go to the properties for whichever IDE channel it's on and switch it to DMA if available.. That's the only other thing I can think of.. GL eGo

good try again, but no,
Let me just say, all those options have been looked at and althought the dmanager did show 2cnd IDE as PIO, when it was set to DMA or avail, still no go, drive stays at pio.. oh well
