It's set to single drive.. XPro recognizes it.. But it won't let me view it and I can't find it in disk manager.. It's also saying that none of the USB ports on my 8RDA+ are 2.0?? Crayz..

That sounds like the problem. Do you have the usb 2.0 driver installed? Using xp with service pak 1?

Also try another port if you can. I use a usb 2.0 enclosure and as DaMan said it must be set to master, not just single drive. ;)

I think the 8RDA+ and 8RDA3+ have four USB 2.0 and two USB 1.1 ports.

*Edit*
I could not get an external SATA or SCSI drive to show in WinXP on an nForce board. It shows in the Device Manager but not in WinXP.

Well..

I have it set to master now, and as Carl said, it's showing in device manager, but the drive can't be seen anyplace. weird.. I've also tried installing the drivers, the CD that came with the mobo only says to go to windows update and get the most recent microsoft drivers which I've already got. I have also got SP1 installed on the rig already. This is pretty weird.. It will recognize the burner, but not the HD..

You do have usb 2.0 drivers installed?

The only thing else I can think of is to double check all connections, and try another usb port. Maybe try another hard drive if you have one, just to see. It should work. I've tried mine in various usb ports and it always has worked.

Well, I don't know what it was..

It's working now on a different rig.. Another question arises.. Will this NOT work on a USB1.1 machine? I was really hoping to be able to hook this up to a friends computer so that I could use it to download to while at their house (they have cable) so I wouldn't have to take my own box.. Anybody know? Thanx! eGo

It's backwards compatable, but of course it'll be slower. ;)

I have a USB 2 enclosure that I plug into a 1.1 PC and I get a warning that a USB 2.0 device is plugged intoa 1.0 port, but it does work

Well..

I'm beginning to think it's something more along the lines of Carl's problem.. I can't get it to recognize the drive in any port.. So, I'm trying something else.. Gonna install Win2K and see what I get.. Ghosting now just incase.. ;) eGo

Success..

Win2K be thy name.. I don't know what the deal was, but Win2k sure doesn't have any problems with anything. the USB 2.0 install went wondefully and the drive is recognized just fine on my 8RDA+ .. Maybe you should run a dual boot Carl.. ;) Nah.. Too much hassle I know.. But I've been wanting to give 2k a whirl... So, here it goes.. eGo
