USB Keyboard problem

I got a new Viewsonic USB Keyboard (I want to get away from PS/2)
Here is the deal. The damn thing will work in DOS no problems and works in BIOS no problems
I get into Windows XP and the thing will not work, if it does it will only work for about 1 minute then go away.
When I plug it in WinXP load up drivers then says there was a problem loading drivers.
In device manager I get "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

Anyone have an idea? This is very frustrating that it will work outside of windows and windows is supose to have native support for USB keyboards.

Does the keyboard have a USB hub built in ? (port on each end)

no hub... just a straight USB keyboard
USB mouse works great. USB Palm Syncs fine. USB memory stick works too.

OK the keyboard works great on another computer, so Im thinking something is fubar'ed on my rig.
Therefore I tried to reformat with the USB keyboard on the computer. Well this will not work either. The keyboard works great in dos but as soon as you get to Press Enter to setup windows...I cant press enter cause keyboard no workie.

Is this common?

USB keyboards usually work just fine. I would check with the mobo manufacturer for updated BIOS or driver.

Also check the BIOS settings. Some mobos have 2 settings for the USB keyboard: one for DOS support, and another called Legacy support. Both should be enabled.

There's an update patch for XP you can download through Windows Update that fixes an issue with USB 2.0. I think it's in the Windows updates not the critical updates - not sure.

Try contacting the keyboard manufacturer.

Try another USB keyboard if possible.

Hope this helps.

I've had some problems like that, a usb kb is picky and seems to only work in certain ports. Try them all.
