***edit*** Also, I'm having problems with the burner.. It says it's burning and that it's successfully completed a burn, but the CD is still blank.. Anybody seen this before? Am I safe to assume that the laser is dead or something? It still works as a CD-ROM just not a burner.. Any ideas? eGo

Test IDE cable: swap for another cable.

Burner: If you're suspecting IDE problems on that system I'd try that burner on another system first to be sure. The burning and playback lasers are two seperate lasers though so yes, you can have one fail and not the other.
