.Net pop up

Post by blade »

Got the above 2 times in the last 30 minutes. I have messenger disabled and I believe uninstalled. If that is a messenger pop up anyway.

Ran adaware, still got it again. Anyone know how to stop this?

*Found this:

[Start] [Run] [Regedit]
Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MessengerService
Modify/Create the Value Data Type(s) and Value Name(s) as detailed below.
Data Type: REG_BINARY [Binary Value] // Value Name: PassportBalloon
Modify the Value Name [PassportBalloon] according to the Value Data listed below.
Value Data: [Change Value to 0A 00 00 00]
Exit Registry and Reboot

But messenger service isn't listed. Guess I did remove it before thanks to MegaVectra's tip. Then what is causing the pop up? :mad

You SURE MSN Messenger isn't installed?

That's a message you'll get whenever you have an app running that requires a .NET passport account (and MSN Messenger is one of them).

Otherwise think carefully about what you've installed recently. Some kind of service wants you to setup a passport account.

Bring up task manager and see what's running when this comes up. Check you Startups in MSCONFIG.

You might also try just signing up for a passport account (it's free - no big deal). Once you do, whatever program is trying to sign on should then come up and you can then figure out what it is and disable it.

Nothing messenger shows up in places like the registry, so it must be gone.

I tried what you said, start to sign up. But it never showed what program is causing this. But now I get a sign-in box instead.

Now I believe it's from a certain sports site I go to. The last few passport pop ups have happened only when at that site.

*Confirmed, others are complaining of the same thing there.

Is it in a forum? Are some of the personal photos hosted by MSN?
