Registry Question

Okay, recently I had to wipe my system drive and install WinXP, all fine and dandy. But one thing that occured to me, whenever I put in a game CD it asks to install the game since it can't find it in the registry. Is there anyway to fix this (short of reinstalling) since games such as WC3:FT can't update correctly cause it can't find where to put information into the registry. Thanks for the help.

Nope you pretty much have to reinstall the game. On the bright side with most games if you install to the same directory (assuming game is on different partition than the one you just wiped) after you reinstall it your saved games and maybe your settings will still be there. This may vary from game to game.

Backup your saved games somewhere else just in case, but 99% of the time if you re-install to the same directroy your saved games will still be there.

Microsoft games all save their saved games in your My Documents folder (usually under a folder called My Games). I'm not thrilled about it since my documents folder resides on my file server and I back it up to tape every night.
No way of relocating that folder that I'm aware of.
Same thing applies though - re-installing the game should keep the old saved games and sometimes may keep the old settings.
