Tomorrow I'm going into some sort of Competition put on by HeathKit. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to a basic way to go about it. There's gonna be a problem with the computer and we'll have an hour I think to figure it out. It's just for fun nothing big, but winning no matter what is still better than losing  :D Just wondering if there was a good run through any1 used that is pretty effective. (I have my own I'm just looking for suggestions) :o

are we talking user level troubble shooting or actual component (capasitors, resistors, transistors, ICs....) testing?

I don't think it's anything that serious, the Jumper on the HD could be a fault or a series of other things but nothing huge like that, Registry could also be a problem. The computers will be set to daul-boot 2000 and 98.

will you have access to the internet there?

if so, then when the problem comes up, post here and we help you. Then you can make it look like you knew all along :)

but other than that....only suggest I can give is to start at the lowest/easiest solution first, then work your way up
