Just got an Xbox in today... it's been a couple of years since I've tried my hand at console games...

I want to be able to backup my games so that I don't scratch up the originals, what would I need in order to backup my games and also would I still need a mod chip to read them?

I have a DVD +/- R/RW drive (NEC) and also am using Nero 5.5

i'm pretty sure u would need a "modchip" to play "back-up" games. do a quick search on google or yahho for "xbox game backup" and u should find a bunch of links.

there is a shit load you can do with a modchip for xbox
every PC emulator has been ported
has a media center that plays divx,mov,mp3,
can hack games like halo like weapons/map (only works on system link if others have them too)
to bad you'll miss out on the fun

cool stuff you dont need a chip for =)
http://www.xbconnect.com/
gamespy has the same stuff built-in

I hear .. but the $40 I spent on my modchip has been well worth it. I added a 120G hard drive and now all I do is stick the game disk in and copy it to the HD and play it off of there.

The EMU's (2600, SNES, GBA, etc) are all awesome as well..

Got my modchip here: http://www.modchipman.com/

yo "donk" what kinda chip you got on your xbox? seems that the site you linked is down. i just may get another xbox to mess around with and do some "modifications".

i mean with so many modchips available for the xbox i wouldn't know where to start! :)

Would mod chips affect me connecting to XBox Live?

Chotted: No the Xbox mod-chip that I have has a nice on-off switch so it wouldn't effect Xbox-Live as you just turn it off when you want to go online. :)

RaT: Sorry about the dead link. Try here: http://www.mods4less.com/catalog/default.php I got the X-ecuter 2.2 Lite.
Install information is here: http://www.xbox-scene.com/modchips/x-ec ... grams.html

"Would mod chips affect me connecting to XBox Live?"

from what i know so far, yes (dunno if there's a work around this yet)!! that's why since prices for the xbox have gone down, i'm thinking of keeping my current one for "Live" play and getting another to mess around with :)
