Is it just me or do top end CRT's STILL look better than the best flat panels out there? I just did a system build for a guy and he had a new 17" Sony something or other FP waiting and I couldn't wait to get home to my big fattys.

I can't speak for others, but I LOVE my NEC1760NX. It extremely sharp, no problems with ghosting, large space saver (it matters at college), and tons lighter when transporting it to and from home. If you want size, CRTs are still the way to go considering I could have bought like a 21" CRT for what this cost me.... but it was worth every penny.

No doubt on the space issue. I've always loved big CRT's especially the trinitrons. Tough to beat the colors. I'm sure I'll go the FP route one of these days. Not today tho........ I just bought this!

I really like the flat panel 18" I bought for our secondary computer. But when I want a higher resolution I always default to the main rigs 21" Trinitron.
At work they were upgrading people to 17" flat screens, I opted for the 19" Trinitron CRT.

I have the 17" Viewsonic VP171b flat panel and its a great monitor. Colors are sharp and no ghosting on games or DVDs. It was slightly expensive though.

I have yet to see a single Flat Panel that didn't ghost. Flat Panels have their place--desktop work. Play a movie or game on it and I can atleast tell the difference. For those that can't, you're lucky. Another thing to mention that I don't like is the fact that it can't handle resolutions above/below their native too well. As I said, they have their place. I have the room for a 19" CRT so space (the only reason I'd go flat panel) is not an issue.

I had purchased a 19" flat panel, looked lovely but the second I started playing games I was like what the F. So I returned it and picked up a 21" HP P1110 for 150.00 at a comp. show and love it!

The thing you have to watch when buying a LCD monitor is the pixlel response time. If you get one with a 12 - 15 pixel response time, you won't have ghosting.
Right now, I believe you can only fine these fast resposne times in 17" LCDs. I have yet to see any ghosting or blurring in my LCD with games (Quake III / UT 2003) or any of the DVDs I play.

I love my 18'' Nec lcd monitor. ! I have noticed a big difference in image quality and brightness. 3 times better for me than a good 19'' ctr. Im not a serious gamer so maybe that is why I love my lcd. btw my eyes are more relaxed with lcd .

My opinion:
If space is not an option...then CRT is a better picture.

Depends on the planned use for it. CRT's are still better for games, LCD's are definitely better for any kind of design/ word processing/ programming work.

Hi All,
On my desk at work, I have two 18” Dell FPs, and two graphics cards.
I do CAD CAM work (AutoCAD), PCB schematic capture, PCB layout work and big spreadsheets. I used to have two NEC (CRT) 21” monitors, and I really don’t miss them. I def. appreciate getting my desk back!
Regards,
Scott

What good are the 2 graphics cards if they're on your desk? :laugh
