Ok... so I installed this case fan that has 3 different color lights. It's attached to the sliding side of my case and when its open, it works fine, but when I close it, the lights go off. I'm thinking its grounding something or other and I don't know what to do about it! Please help me out.

check to see if you are pinching the wire

can you take any pictures?

atleast to help myself understand better what your talking about

and is your fan plugged into the motherboard? or to a direct lead off the powersupply via a 4pin/3pin connection?

does the fan still work when you close the side... ?
if so ... weard... if the fan goes out too ... then something is pinched.

I've tried both ways.. directly from the power supply and from the motherboard. The fan still runs no matter what but the lights will go out. I can't take a picture but its a Raidmax 268 case and the fan is on the side. I don't know what to do!!! this is so weird!

check the wires on the fans, maybe one of the points are loose.

Is there something preventing a ground?

Somewhere? You said the fan is on the side.. Is it somehow powered by wires built into the case that make contact when the case is closed? Try putting electrical tape on the edges of the case where it touches when the lights go out and see if that stops it..?? GL eGo

OK.. i did the weirdest test but I actually put the door completely off of the computer with it still plugged in. In this case everything works fine. I took a wire and connected from the metal box and touched the door and the light went off!!!! this is crazy!!

What can i do to solve this?!?!?

Metal Box?

What metal box are you talking about? Is there any way for you to keep this "metal box" from touching the door? Try what I recommended and put some electrical tape on the parts of the door that touch the "metal box" to isolate the door from the "metal box" and that should solve you problem.. You're getting a short to ground somewhere. eGo

ok... i fixed it on my own. I actually started messing around with which screws I had in and apparently if I leave the screw out closest to the wires... it works. I guess it grounded something it wasn't suppose to.
