Anyone run into this problem with Acrobat?

Win98SE system. Doesn't matter what version of Acrobat (tried 4, 5, 6).

Acrobat pauses for a LONG time when you load a PDF file (local or in-browser - doesn't matter). We're talking a minute or more. The pause occurs while it's loading all the plugins. Usually pauses longest for the WEBPDF.API and WEBLINK.API plugins.

Tried the following:

- Uninstaller/Re-installed Acrobat countless times, all different versions
- Update from IE 5.5 to IE 6
- IE Security settings are all on default
- Tried disabling in-browser features in Acrobat
- Tried deleting the two API files mentioned above (Acrobat locks up when you do that).

System is clean. No spyware, no viruses, only the essentials running in startup.

A format/clean install is NOT an option. Client has a proprietary app installed and does not have an installation disk for it.

Done some research on Google but nothing that's panned out.

Kind of stumped on this one.

Don't think so.

I have found a FAQ on Acrobat's site that says it could be related to printer or video drivers. Need to try updating them.

Hey FP,

did you try this?

Increase the size of Windows' paging file. Seems Adobe needs a bit more to initialize properly.

one of my work pcs is a p3 500 running win98 and is very slow 256mb of ram - it has lots of other stuff installed - a minute to load a 40-50 page pdf file is about right on this rig

how many fonts are installed, the more on the PC the longer the load time

I'll check the number of fonts, but I doubt this system has anything except the default set.

ANY PDF - even a 5K one, takes 1 minute or more to load. The process stalls while it's initializing some of the plugins.
