I already posted this once b4 but I think this is a better spot for it so I'm gonna repost it here:

Ok so when i leave the case open my cpu runs at about 45 C on load, but when it is shut it hits 60 I have two case fans; one in the front and one in the back. The one in the front sucks air in, and the one in the back blows air out. They are both 80 mm and run at about 1500 - 2000 RPMs each. I dont have any more spots for fans and am running out of ideas. The one thing I notice is that in the back I have room and proper screw alignment for a larger fan (larger than 80mm). Would a larger fan in the back help? Is there some other kind of fan i could put in besides a case fan? Any help is appreciated.

If case airflow is good then you should get about the same cpu temp as when the case side is open. Or at least within a few degrees.


Any dust build-up on the fans? Dust does make them less effective. Cables and wires all out of the way and not restricting airflow?

Those are low cfm fans so higher cfm fans will help, but also be a bit noisier of course. Larger fans will help too, if the airflow on them is better. Are the vents for the fans open enough to allow for good airflow? Many cases have the vents for fans very poorly designed and do restrict airflow.

What case do you have? If the above doesn't help then you could drill out the fan vents, or even make another for the rear and front, if space allows.

Everything that Blade said and maybe cut the vent holes for the fans out so they can move more air and use a wire grill guard.

I mentioned most of that in where ever your other post is.

Sounds like you're running off the two 'stock' fans that came with the case...

The last pair I got sucked all forms of ass... They were so cheap they even skimped on the overall 'box' design by making one half round rather then square. Low RPM's in the 1500rpm range...not loud but not pushing enough air to blow one measly piece of paper off a desk.

Try going for a pair of HQ fans (panaflo/delta - even ThermalTake will do you good) then check temps. If it's hitting the sweet spot you won't have to go trying to mod the case...

If not go out and get yourself a good drill and a nice 80mm holesaw bit...one fan over AGP/PCI and the other right over the CPU. Blowing in or out depending on the heatsinks fan.

If it's got slot type cuts (think stanard AMD stock heatsinks) then reverse the fan so it's pulling air up and forcing it through the fins. Then have the GPU fan blowing in while the CPU side panel one blows out...

All depends on how your wiring/case is laid out...so try it a few different ways...

on my case I have the regular PSU fan and a fan mounted to the side where my window is and that's it
(minus the CPU fan )
quiet as can be and it blows COLD from the side...cold enough that I don't like sittin beside it at night with shorts on!

so get out your dremel and mod that side out!!!
