OS and FPS

how much does the OS afect the FPS

b/c half-hife counter-strike

in win me it was at 75-80

now in winxp pro is at 100 steedy

OS can indeed affect FPS, although that's a big difference. ME consistently gets poorer FPS in games than Win98. XP can be better or worse depending. The reason sometimes you can lose FPS going to XP is because people don't upgrade their ram. 256 is the BARE MINIMUM for serious gaming in XP, and I'd really recommend 512.

Meanwhile in Win98 anything over 128Mb is basically wasted. Matter of fact, 98/ME would often lose performance (depending on a lot of factors) with more than 256Mb intstalled because 98 doesn't efficiently manage large amounts of RAM.

You may also be benefitting from better drivers - Win98/ME is not as well supported anymore by video card manufacturers.

Refresh rate also affects this
