adding quantum snapserver to win2k domain

at work - win2k server which is in charge of domain xxxxxxx

need user account and pw to log onto domain etc

snap erver comes with default tcp/ip to get ip automatically and to join workgroup

tried to hook it up on win2k server network and of course nothing

brought it home, hooked to my peer tcp/ip 2000/xp mixed network at home "workgroup" and it jumps right up

so far so good

going into the snap control panel, it has a provision for logging onto domains, ok

but the only place for a password that I am finding is in the admin/password screen

i can enter the name of the snap server as a user on the server, but i think a password is required

i don't want to change the logon on the snap to a domain, because if it isn't right not sure how I would get back in to fix it

anyone who has played with one of these??

TIA

you have to add it to your domain. you can leave it tcp/ip though, and you also have to name it as well.

ok, it has a name which is snapxxxx

i can change it to join the domain instead of workgroup

still not sure how to get it to log onto the domain - it needs to have access to the server in order to back it up

the instructions that came on the disk are a little thin - i haven't had a lot of time to research this

thanks for responding!

you should name it with whatever your server addressing is. Our servers are

192.168.0.10 (main)
192.168.0.20 (mail)
192.168.0.30 (web)

it's really hard to explain without a big writeup, but to put it short

rename it...then join it to the domain. If you have active directory there are a few more thing involved.
