Router dieing?

I've had my trusty linksys router+switch combo for over a year now. In the last two weeks, its been acting very strangely. Specifically, it loses connectivity to the net randomly. Unplug/re-plug always fixes this problem, but its really a nuisance. Is the thing dieing on me or is there something else I might try?

It might be dying, but its worth to check your wiring first and powersupply first. I bought a Linksys 10/100 switch that came with a faulty power-supply, which caused it to randomly lose power. You can order a free replacement power-supply on their website, which they ship to you UPS ground.

Mine started doing the same thing the past few days. Then I noticed it was also making a loud whining noise.
I swapped it for a spare I had on the shelf and that solved the problem so the old one is going back for RMA.

the modem could be the problem as well....

If power-cycling the router fixes the problem then I'd suspect the router before the modem.
Try installing the latest firmware for the router. If it continues to act up, get it RMA'd. Go by a cheap one at Walmart to replace it while you send back the old one then just keep it as a spare. Things are only $40 now.

I found a firmware upgrade released about a month ago and installed that. We'll see what happens with it this week. Thanks fot the input.
