Im curious if you guys cool your drives.
I have an Antec Lanboy Case and its built like most Antec cases with the removable drive tray.
I have a 120 gb Maxtor and a 80gb maxtor with a space between and have a 80mm fan blowing air accross the drive so far looks as if its working, but curious if anyone recomends a better colling method?

I'd think a fan blowing air over the hard drives from the front would be the best hard drive cooling there is. That is if the fan is powerful enough. That's how I keep mine cool.

There are heatpipe hd coolers available and some with fans blowing on the underside with an aluminum or copper spread-out heatsink. Most I've seen tested aren't too effective. But the newer one should be better.

Most cases have adequate cooling for hard drives. Some cases have a mount for a fan along side the hard drives for extra cooling (my old tower did).

A LOT of the heat is dissipitated via a heatsink effect through the HDD's case and to the computer chassis.

Some drives do run hotter than others though.

If you use a removable drive tray (I do to allow me to easily access client's drives) then I would DEFINATELY get a tray that has a cooling fan in it. Those trays have poor ventilation and no heatsinking. I've seen drives get too hot to touch inside of them.

in my case, its got a hardrive cage at the bottom front of the case....right behind a 120mm intake fan...

Here is the one I've been using for 2 years:

I just finished replacing it after 2 years of use as one of the bearings began to make a lot of noise. Even applying a small drop of oil on the bearing did not solve it so I just replaced the whole thing. Don't know if it's the best, but the price is right.

I just stick a fan in front of mine. Works as both system ventilation and hard drive cooler.

my case has a fan infront of my hd cage bringing in nice cool air in from the outside.

Ya, my main case has a place on the drive cage to mount a fan. I ran without a fan with the case open and would sometimes touch the drives, not to hot but they felt warm. I put a fan in front of them and now they feel cool.

7200rpm drives, a Maxtor 60gig and 120gig.

I mounted an 80mm case fan on the end of my drive rack. It seems to do a good job on my pair of WD 40 giggers. :) Image

My dual WD Raptor 10000 rpm's and my 80gb Maxtor's have a pair of 80mm fans blowing on em.
