Thanks Red for the link, as I have one of those Death Stars in my system, but I've never had a problem with it. The 60GXP 40 gig drive is 20 months old and has never missed a beat. After reading the link, I'm glad I installed a HD cooler to the drive underneath. It's a dual fan setup. I've had this drive running even for days downloading while at work. I guess it was OK since the heads were always moving and not at idel.

Lucky here too....I have two 15gig versions, forget the model numbers now (I just use one as a misc drive in my main rig, dates back to my 700MHz rig tho) Both have worked fine ever since I bought 'em.

I had a 60GXP bomb on me with 20 gigs of MP3's on it. Luckily I had them all backed up on another system

Guys I had a 20 gig 75GXP that hummed along for over two years not a problem and then inexplicably started acting weird on me two days later it was dead. Just my two cents but if I had one of the Deathstars still I would be upgrading the firmware even if it was working good now because who knows what tomorrow might bring. On a side note I have read that cooling the drives helps a lot but then again mine had a 80mm fan in the hdd cage blowing air across the top and bottom of drive.

I looked into it and it says:
Links to download appropriate firmware update
Click here if the firmware level indicated by the identification utility is IA6AA.

Click here if the firmware level indicated by the identification utility is OA6AA.

Click here if the firmware level indicated by the identification utility is A45A.
Mine is OA5AA. Dunno if I should bother since it's not giving the right identification.
